At your first session, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form to provide a better sense of your diagnosis (if there is one), past and current treatments and current supports. Together we will discuss the information provided and discuss treatment goals and expectations.
In accordance with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, confidentiality must always be kept with the exception of our legislated duty to report child abuse and neglect concerns, or a person who is at immediate risk of self-harm or of harm to others, and our duty to provide court ordered information. Otherwise information is always protected, and will not be shared without your permission. Further details can be discussed during your first session.
Counselling services may be funded by the personal extended health care benefits, Blue Cross for Veterans, Greenshield for post secondary student or Automobile insurance (SABS). Services are not covered by OHIP. Some insurance companies require the patient to pay and then to submit for reimbursement. Our clinic also has the option to complete direct billing. Please contact your insurance provider first to ensure that you have counselling service coverage prior to attending your appointments to avoid frustrations and having to pay out of pocket.
Treatment depends on a few factors, commitment to therapy, diagnosis and medication adherence. Recent research indicates that on average 15 to 20, 1 hour sessions are required for 50 percent of patients to recover.
We book a 40 minute initial intake appointment to assess your goals and treatment options. There is no pressure to continue treatment.
